Service charge distribution for hotels and restaurants, inside payroll

Hotels and restaurants share service charge every month, and each share has to reach the payslip with the right tax. In Stavis each employee's service charge share goes into the payroll run as an earning, PPh 21 is calculated on it, and it appears on the payslip. Eligible employee categories are set once in settings.

What you can do

Eligible categories

Choose which employee categories receive service charge, for example permanent and contract staff, separately from those who do not.

Shared inside the payroll run

The month's service charge pool is shared among eligible employees and added as a "Service Charge" line on each payslip.

Correct tax and BPJS

Service charge is taxable income under PPh 21 TER and is not added to the BPJS contribution base.

Visible at approval

Approvers see service charge amounts when they check the run and can send it back if the figure has not been updated.

How it works

  1. 1

    Close the month's pool

Finance sets the total service charge to share for the service month.

  2. 2

Add it to the payroll run

Each eligible employee's share goes into the next salary run with pay, overtime and allowances.

  3. 3

    Check and pay

The run is calculated, approved and paid as usual. Employees see their service charge on the payslip.

Frequently asked questions

Is service charge subject to PPh 21?

Yes. Service charge shared with employees is income, so it is added to the month's gross and taxed at the TER rate.

Is service charge part of the BPJS wage base?

In Stavis, service charge is recorded as an earning that does not add to the BPJS wage base, because the amount changes every month.

How do hotels distribute service charge?

The month's service pool is usually shared equally or by points among employees who worked that month. The shares are paid in the following month's payroll.

Can daily workers receive service charge?

Eligibility is set per employee category, so you decide which categories take part.
